Senior living community close to nature

Fredensborghusene consist of 77 interconnected houses that blend discreetly into the surrounding nature.

The senior housing consists of 30 terraced houses, 47 angular courtyard houses and a community centre with a restaurant, function rooms and nine guest rooms. Jørn Utzon designed the area with a so-called finger plan, which means that all houses radiate out from a central axis and have a view of scenic areas. The centre of Fredensborghusene is home to the restaurant, where residents eat together every day, the Saxild Hall, which is used for events and lectures, a fireplace room, a lounge with games tables and the Utzon Museum Fredensborg.

A Space for Community and Social Activities

The community centre in the main building of Fredensborghusene has been an important social gathering place since the beginning. Here, residents eat together and organise joint activities such as yoga, lectures, excursions, Midsummer Eve celebrations, and more.

The community centre is partly furnished with furniture designed by Utzon, while the walls are decorated with gifts from members of the association. Jørn Utzon's daughter, Lin Utzon, has created a striking and beautiful mural which was unveiled on the 100th anniversary of her father’s birth in 2019. In front of the community centre is a large terrace, a wide, raised plateau with a beautiful view of the surroundings.

Fredensborghusene is a member of the Frembo association, which has been working to ensure healthy, attractive and sustainable collective housing and nursing homes since 1954.
