The Fredensborg Houses on Screen in the Final Season of Carmen Curlers

When the final season of DR Drama’s Carmen Curlers hits the screen, two of the main characters will have moved into Jørn Utzon’s masterpiece, the Fredensborg Houses.

When DR Drama returns on Sunday 28th September with the third and final season of Carmen Curlers, viewers will not only be reunited with the story of entrepreneur Arne Bybjerg Pedersen (called Axel Byvang in the series). They will also be introduced to a special architectural backdrop: the Fredensborg Houses designed by Jørn Utzon.

The iconic courtyard houses from the early 1960s play a central role in the story of the invention of the electric curler – Carmen Curlers – which became a global success and created one of Denmark’s largest workplaces.

‘It is an honour that Utzon’s unique building is now part of a drama series that also depicts an important chapter in recent Danish history,’ says Pál Jauernik, administrative manager at Fredensborghuse.

Filming took place both in the area and inside one of the courtyard houses. Already in the first episode, viewers can catch a glimpse of Utzon’s architecture on screen, which has undergone a major transformation as the house has been restored to the spirit of the 1960s. Several iconic cars have been driven into the area, while modern electric cars have been hidden away. All of this has brought back many fond memories for the residents of Fredensborghusene.

Pál Jauernik and his wife Clare MacCarthy attended the preview on Thursday, 18th September at Park Bio, where the production team showed the first episode to the press, actors, selected DR employees and specially invited guests.
