The Utzon Museum in Fredensborg will now be open on Tuesdays

The Fredensborg Houses Museum is changing its opening day – come and experience Jørn Utzon’s living vision

From April 1, the Fredensborg Houses Museum will be open on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – the same hours as before, just on a new day of the week.

The Fredensborg complex consists of a series of unique courtyard houses designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon (1918-2008) – who later designed the Sydney Opera House. The unique buildings have long been a magnet for architecture enthusiasts. Today, the complex is considered a masterpiece of Danish residential architecture and has been a listed building since 1987. The museum it includes opened in 2021.

Refined balance between community and privacy

At the Utzon Museum Fredensborg, you can hear the story of architect Jørn Utzon, his philosophy and vision for his architecture, and not least his understanding of the Fredensborg houses’ refined balance between community and privacy.

The museum is located in the central building, which also houses a restaurant and common rooms. The experience is special because every day the building exudes life and community among residents and guests. You can feel the interaction between architecture and everyday life – exactly as Utzon intended.

The Fredensborg Houses were built for Danes living abroad who returned home with experience and learnings from their time overseas. The idea was to create a place where the returning Danes could find peace, community and a sense of belonging – without sacrificing perspective and openness. In other words, it is a living story of homecoming, community and world-class architecture.
