Get up close to Utzon’s masterpiece – experience the Fredensborg Houses from the inside on Architecture Day

What is it really like to live in a house designed by Jørn Utzon? On Monday, October 6, the Fredensborg Houses will open their doors for a very special experience on Architecture Day 2025 – and you’re invited!

It’s a great opportunity to explore the iconic Fredensborg Houses, often referred to as one of Utzon’s most accomplished examples of his idea of a good life in harmony with nature and community. It takes place on Monday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Architecture Day 2025, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a private home, take a guided tour of the museum, and – last but not least – have a chat with the residents themselves about everyday life and community in this architectural masterpiece. All with this year’s theme, “Everyday Life,” as the focal point.

Architecture at eye level – and eye contact

The Fredensborg Houses were designed by Jørn Utzon in the early 1960s and are a piece of living architectural history. Here you will not only encounter walls, rooflines and paths – you will meet people who live in the architecture every day and shape its meaning. On Architecture Day the residents themselves will welcome you and show you around their homes in this scenic area. There’ll be guided tours every hour on the hour.

The 77 houses – including the characteristic angular courtyard houses – lie like a discreet mosaic in the landscape, connected by green wedges and small paths. Jørn Utzon designed the area with a so-called finger plan, which means that all houses have a view of picturesque areas.

The development thus respects both privacy and community spirit – and this is evident in every detail. The central building of Fredensborghusene offers opportunities for community activities. Here you will find a restaurant, function rooms, guest rooms and the Utzon Museum Fredensborg.
