To mark the 60th anniversary of the Fredensborg Houses, on 27 February 2025, the Fredensborg Houses held the conference “Life as a senior citizen in a community” with support from the VELUX Foundation and FREMBO’s building fund. At the conference, a new ethnographic study of the Fredensborg Houses was published.
For more than 60 years, the well-being and quality of life of the residents of Fredensborghusene have been the focus of efforts to strengthen physical and mental health and prevent loneliness in old age. As the number of elderly people continues to grow, and to mark the anniversary, the Fredensborg Houses held a conference celebrating collective housing as a form of living for seniors.
At the conference, Mark Vacher, PhD and associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, unveiled the results of a new ethnographic study of life in Utzon’s collective housing. At the same time, the day’s speakers helped to place collective housing in a historical, contemporary and future perspective. The moderator for the day’s speakers and panel debate was TV host and architect Ane Corzen.
